VIJAYPUR, July 21: Senior Congress leader and former Minister Manjit Singh has demanded one time settlement of the displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and equal rights for the landless labourers and other persons who have been rendered without work after their migration from one place to other due to hostility between India and Pakistan.
While addressing DPs at Vijaypur in district Samba today, the Congress leader said that he had been projecting their demand before every forum forcefully. Mr Singh alleged that there were some political parties who used to oppose the demand of settlement of the displaced persons/ refugees in Jammu and Kashmir but now they have supported the cause of refugees / DPs. The political parties speak about the settlement of other pending demands of the displaced persons like Congress Party.
Even if, there is positive support from all, yet the bureaucratic set up is allegedly creating hurdles in the settlement.
Over an year has passed, but the package needed for the redressal of the demand of the DPs/ refugees has not been sent to the Union Government which indicates the negligent attitude of the officials in the State. Mr Singh urged the Government to provide relief and settle the refugees/ displaced persons at par with the Kashmiri Pandits.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Brij Mohan Dutta, Vijay Verma, Jagtar Ram, Chahat Bali, Sunil Balotra, Dev Raj Khajuria, Pardeep Sharma, Sunil Kumar, Capt (Retd) Dharam Chand, Raj Kumar and Ram Lal.
