JAMMU, Oct 7: The Congress leaders and workers held a massive protest demonstration at Shahidi Chowk here and burnt the effigy of State Government over the issue of imposing service tax on the Helicopter service to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, failure of Government to fulfill the demands of daily wagers/casual labours, CP workers, NYC volunteers and need base workers in PHE and other departments and curbing the voice of opposition in the State Legislature.
A large number of Congress activists and other functionaries led by former Ministers Raman Bhalla and Sham Lal Sharma assembled at Shahidi Chowk near PCC office here today and started protest demonstration. Many Youth Congress and Mahila Congress activists also joined them. They also burnt the effigy of PDP-BJP Government in the State.
The Congress activists held protested against the PDP-BJP Coalition Government in the State over the issue of imposing service tax on the Helicopter service to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, failure of Government to fulfill the demands of daily wagers, casual workers, ITI trained/ CP workers, need base workers in PHE and other different departments and NYC volunteers.
While addressing the gathering the PCC leaders lashed out at PDP-BJP Coalition Government for its utter failure on all fronts. They said that the BJP which claims to be the champion of Jammu people has betrayed the mandate of the people by taking U-turn on all vital commitments made with the people of the State, especially Jammu region during elections.
They said the State Government has imposed Service Tax on the Helicopter Service to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra with the consent of BJP leadership in the State. The Govt is not fulfilling the demands of agitating workers of different departments and NYC volunteers, PHE- ITI trained daily wagers, CP Workers, need base workers who are one strike for the last several weeks.
Prominent among those who participated in protest included Mulla Ram, Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Shabir Khan, Manjit Singh, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Kuldip Raj Verma, Shiv Dev Singh, Anil Chopra, Krishan Lal Gupta, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Pawan Raina, Thomas Khokhar, Manjit Singh Jatt, Sukh Dev Singh, Pranav Shagotra, Neeraj Kundan; Satish Sharma, JL Kaul, Om Prakash, Vijay Sharma, Prabha Salathia, Geeta Devi and others.
