JAMMU, Jan 23: A protest of Congress workers of Jammu East Constituency led by Vikram Malhotra, general secretary, JKPCC, was held today here at Panjtirthi against the non-availability of ration at the Government depots in Jammu City.
The hundreds of Congress activists assembled at Panjthirthi carrying banners in their hands amidst chanting of slogans against Prime-Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Malhotra expressed serious concern over the non-availability of ration at the Government depots in Jammu City and elsewhere in the State. He said that general public especially the poor who cannot afford to purchase ration on higher rates in open market are suffering the most.
Malhotra said that about 1700 Quintals Atta, 4000 Quintals Rice and 500 Quintals Sugar was pending for supply to Depots. But the position is that the PDS staff has gone for strike and there is nobody to look to the problems of people.
The PCC general secretary criticized BJP legislatures who were given mandate by the people of Jammu with the hope that they will serve them better but unfortunately BJP legislators and leaders have gone in hibernation and miserably failed to serve the people of Jammu.
He urged upon the Governor to intervene in the matter and demanded strict action against Director Food and Supplies for depriving people of ration in this extreme weather.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Thomas Khokher, secretary PCC, Ricky Dalotra, Rinku Mehra, Michal Wazir, Balbir Singh, Babbu Shah and Sandeep Singh.
