JAMMU, July 10: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today criticized the Modi led Government at the Centre and PDP-BJP Government in the State for befooling the people of J&K in the name of implementation of Goods & Services Tax (GST), as toll tax is still being charged at the dignified Toll Plazas, especially at Lakhan Pur, Lower Munda and Ban Toll Plaza, etc.
A meeting of the Pradesh Congress Committee was held here today, which was attended by former Minister and senior vice president, Sham Lal Sharma, former Minister and vice president, Raman Bhalla, besides Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh, Manjit Singh and Namarta Sharma, all general secretaries and other party leaders.
Addressing the meeting, the Congress leaders were very critical about the slogan of “One Nation, One Tax” given by Government at the Centre over the implementation of GST regime across the country.
“Even as new tax system has been introduced in the State, Toll Tax is still being charged by the concerned Government authorities in J&K in total violation of the guidelines outlined by the Government while implementing the GST in the entire country as well as in J&K,” they said.
Expressing their serious concern over the plight of business community, especially the traders and consumers in the State, the Congress leaders said that due to charge of Toll Tax at the respective Toll Plazas in the State, the traders are forced to pay undue fees, which is adding to their cost of goods.
They demanded that Toll Tax should be immediately abolished giving relief to the trading community and common masses of the State.
