Cong calls Union Budget as mere FM’s lip service

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Thursday said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley ‘failed fiscal consolidation test’ and the Budget was a mere ‘lip service’. Former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram warned Mr Jaitley’s ‘failure will have serious consequences”.

“The Finance Minister fails fiscal consolidation test, this failure will have serious consequences,” he said.  Another Congress leader and former Union Minister Manish Tewari also dismissed the budget as a ‘lip service’ to farmers and other marginalised sections of the society.

“The Union Government has attempted to pay lip service to farmers and to other marginalised sections of the society. It is a classical case of too less and at the inappropriate time,” he said.

Mr Tewari also said after serving rich and powerful for four years, the Government feels it can fool ordinary citizens by showing that it cares for them, that too in this election year.

Nation will react furiously to this. “After servicing the Capitalist, oligarch and Khas Aadmi for four years suddenly Govt feels that it can fool the farmer, the labourer, the small artisan, the salaried professional that it cares about them too in an election year.

Hell hath no fury like a nation scorned,” he tweeted.  (AGENCIES)
