JAMMU, Aug 18: The Congress has appointed senior leader Gokul Butail as War Room chairperson for Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled to be held in three phases.

A party spokesman said that Congress general secretary, KC Venugopal issued the appointment letters after getting revised proposal and subsequent approval by the party president, as War Room chairpersons for Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir for the upcoming Assembly elections, with immediate effect:
Senior leader Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy has been appointed as the War Room chairperson for Maharashtra, Naveen Sharma for Haryana and Gokul Butail for Jammu and Kashmir. Sasikanth Senthil will continue to be the National War Room, Chairman.
Meanwhile, Ex-MLA Devi Dass and Vice Chairman JKPCC SC Department has been appointed as Election Observer for Samba, Ramgarh, Akhnoor, Ramnagar and Kathua constituencies of the party.
