JAMMU, Sept 15: A Civil Defence wardens’ conference/ workshop on the role of wardens before, during and after disaster was held at Regional Civil Defence Control Centre, Parade here under the guidance of Additional Director General of Police, Home Guards/ Civil Defence & SDRF, Muneer Ahmed Khan.
Vikas Gupta, I/C DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu was the chief guest; Rashmi Wazir, SSP, Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn Jammu the guest of honour while Anita Pawar, DySP, Dy Controller HG/CD closely supervised the programme.
The chief guest, Gupta emphasized that disaster keeps no calendar and place and wardens should always be ready for any eventuality. He said global warming has changed the entire natural environment of the world, so the civil society must be made aware about the disasters and how can we minimize the effect. A campaign of awareness must be conducted in the region, he maintained.
The chief guest also decorated and pinned the DGCD medal and disc to Th Ranjit Singh, Dy Chief Warden Civil Defence Jammu for his outstanding performance.
Earlier, Professor of Geology from Jammu University, Dr S K Pandita, Asstt Prof Dr Naveen Hakhoo , Dr Deepak Kumar from SSH Jammu widely spoke on the disaster and its management. Anita Pawar spoke on the objective of the conference and the role of wardens. Representatives from NDRF and SDRF also shared their personal experience with the gathering.
