JAMMU, Nov 3: National conference on “Recent Advances in Statistical Methods and their Application in Health Sciences”, organized by the PG Department of Statistics, University of Jammu, concluded today.
About 250 research papers were presented in the proceeding of last three days and about 25 invited talks were delivered on the various aspects of Statistics. In addition to paper presentation and invited talks, academic sessions and interactions on various aspects of Bio-statistics, Actuarial Statistics, Reliability theory, Sample Surveys, Designing of Experiment, Stochastic Processes, Econometrics and Data Mining etc were held.
During the valedictory function, Prof V D Singh, Director DDE, who was the chief guest, pointed out that keeping in view the importance of Statistics in almost every discipline, such conferences should involve the faculty and students of all the disciplines. He disclosed the DDE, JU is going to start PG Diploma in Statistics, keeping in view the overwhelming response at undergraduate level in particular and huge demand of this subject in public as well as private sector in general. This course will help in producing skilled statisticians who are in great demand in industry today, he added.
Prof Subbakrishna, president Indian Society for Medical Statistics, deliberated upon the activities of ISMS and stressed on the need for organizing such events.
Prof Anil Mathew, general secretary of Indian Society for Medical Statistics, Prof R K Mahajan, Prof S C Malik, Prof A Indryan and Prof C M Pandey also spoke on the occasion.
Prof JP Singh Joorel, Dean Mathematical Science and organizing chairman of the conference, presented a formal welcome address.
Vote of thanks was given by Prof Rahul Gupta, HoD Statistics and organizing secretary of the conference.
