JAMMU, Sept 21: All India Confederation of SC, ST, OBC Organisations held a meeting of their members at Jammu and discussed in threadbare concerns of the stakeholders, especially, SC/ST/OBCs following re-organization of the J&K State into Union Territories.
While addressing, State President of the Confederation, R K Kalsotra said that lockdown in the Valley was affecting the labour class the most. “The state is moving towards a new phase of entering into UT and this is a historic moment for the people of the State. Hence, it is important that all the stakeholders should be duly consulted. Various leaders are house arrested and political activities are at halt. It is therefore highly recommended to take opinion of everyone in the decision making process,” he said.
He further stressed that the Centre should also be highly sensitive to the needs of backward classes, who are the most vulnerable for the past years. “Mandal Commission’s recommendation should be implemented in toto for 27 percent reservation while the National Commission for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes/ OBCs/Women and Other Minorities should be brought to the State along with Parliament amendments in favour of SC/ST/OBCs like 81st, 82nd, 85th. Clearance of backlog in reservation in promotions and roster base seniority should also be implemented,” he added.
Seeking job security for the local youth, Kalsotra said that instead of 35A, domicile certificate should be mandated. This will not only create employment for them but also give some sort of job security which was lacking earlier, he added and demanded to include provisions for clearing pending huge backlogs of SC/ST/OBCs.
