JAMMU, July 22: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today underlined the need to get public feedback for improving service delivery on the ground level.
The Minister directed I&FC functionaries to conduct areas wise survey and create data bank about the condition, discharge capacity of each irrigation canal and excess or shortfall of supply to a particular area.
The Minister was chairing a review meeting of Irrigation and Flood Control Department of Jammu division.
He took a detailed review of the status of water flow in Ranbir Canal, Partap Canal, Ravi-Tawi Irrigation Complex and their distributaries.
Sham Choudhary also directed the department to launch extensive plantation drive along the canals and their distributaries. He said this would help to prevent breaches and encroachment. He also called for intensifying drive against removal of illegal pump sets put up on the canals.
Stressing on the importance of agriculture sector in the State, the Minister said that every farmer should get sufficient water for irrigation so that he can get better produce. He further directed the officers to conduct regular field visits to know about the requirement and supply of water in Kandi belt for assisting the farmers.
Chief Engineer, Ravi-Tawi Irrigation Complex HC Jerath and other engineers of the department were present in the meeting.
