JAMMU, July 25: The members of Civil Society Kishtwar in a meeting today expressed grave concern over prevailing drinking water scarcity in Kishtwar town and other hilly areas of the district.
The meeting, which was chaired by Shamsher Singh Manhas and also addressed by other members including Farooq Ahmed Tapal a Trade Union leader appealed the authorities to take immediate steps in solving the problem. They demanded that a new water supply scheme be sanctioned for Kishtwar town.
The meeting also demanded that the work on much talked about Rattle Power Project be started immediately, construction of more parking slots from Malpeth to Kuleed Chowk, installation of street lights from Hasti Morh to Kuleed Chowk and construction of sports stadium in Kishtwar for youth.
The meeting said that being the backward and hilly district the Kishwar should be given special preference in development and the power potential in the district be exploited by starting work on the approved power projects on river Chenab.
