WASHINGTON, June 14: Indiaspora, a top Indian-American organisation, has launched a comprehensive philanthropic survey to identify issues of importance to the community and the diverse ways in which it collectively gives back.
The first-ever survey of its kind looks at the community engagement and attitudes towards giving of Indian-Americans.
“Indian-Americans have the single highest income level of any group in the country and also account for one of the largest groups of individuals who are giving back,” eminent Indian-American philanthropist and venture capitalist M R Rangaswami said.
Preliminary results will be announced at the Indiaspora Philanthropy Summit on July 17 in Washington DC with the published report coming out later this fall.
In addition to better identifying the issues that are of importance to the Indian-American community, Indiaspora hopes that the information will be used by charitable giving and other nonprofit groups to better understand and serve their specific constituencies in the community.
“This is the first all-encompassing survey of its kind which will begin to examine how we as a community give back as well as what issues matter to us the most. We hope the information we gain from this will help us to not only increase the amount of giving by our community but also make it more impactful and sustainable,” Rangaswami said.
The summit is expected to be attended by a group of leading Indian-Americans and Indians from various backgrounds and industries such as social impact investing, higher education, think tanks, government sectors, and leading philanthropists.
Some of the top attendees include Sunil Wadhwani, Atul Satija, Geeta Murali and Shaheen Mistry. (PTI)
