JAMMU, Sept 3: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the displaced inhabitants of village Saddal, which was devastated due to landslide in the year 2014, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Sanjay Dhar has issued directions for completion of rehabilitation work as early as possible.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench, after hearing Advocate Deepika Mahajan appearing for the PIL whereas AAG Aseem Sawhney appearing for the UT administration, observed, “it is submitted that the Government has come up with a policy decision to rehabilitate them in village Mansar and that some land for each family has been earmarked but somehow the rehabilitation process could not be completed”.
“As stated by AAG Aseem Sawhney the work is in full swing and only small things like electrification etc remain to be completed and he, therefore, prays for and is granted a month’s time to file fresh status report”, the DB said and directed to ensure that the rehabilitation work is completed as early as possible.
DB further said that AAG shall also inform if the benefits under the State as well as Centrally Sponsored Schemes have been extended to these families.
