SAMBA, Dec 7: In absence of traffic lights, the commuters and the shopkeepers are facing problems, here.
As per reports, few years back a dispute was between the traders of Samba and the District Administration while closing of the Main Chowk and at that time the administration had assured to install traffic lights on the chowk, but many years passed, nothing has been done till today.
Although the Main Chowk crossing remains closed from 8 am to 8 pm and is opened during night hours, the accident has been curbed, but the demand of the shopkeepers has not been met. Being in the middle of Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, there have been many major accidents in the past in which dozens of people have lost their lives and as many got injured.
While talking to media persons, one of the shopkeepers in Samba Market said that the administration had assured us to install lights so that the crossing from the Main Chowk could remain open, but nothing has been done till today.
“The demand should be redressed in the shortest possible time so as to provide succor to the commuters as well as shopkeepers”, he added.
Beopar Mandal of Samba has appealed to DC Samba Rohit Khajuria to direct the concerned authorities for installation of traffic lights at the main chowk of the Samba at the earliest.
