SAMBA, Aug 7: The dilapidated condition of Gurha Slathia road from Gurha Slathia Bus Stand to Garh Mandi is causing immense hardships to the commuters as the Government has virtually not undertaken any repair work on this road since years. This main road stretch is in very bad condition and is dotted with potholes and bumps due to which the frequent commuters are facing tremendous inconvenience everyday. The locals explained that the passenger vehicles have to move at snail’s pace in order to avoid the potholes and bumps which variously lead to failure of employees and students to reach their respective destinations on time.
The residents of these areas also complained that several people including the children have developed respiratory problems due to inhaling of dust emanating from the road. Huge columns of dust rise due to the continuous vehicular movement on the road, which is responsible for prevalence of respiratory diseases in the area. They said that during rains, these potholes get filled with water making the pedestrian movement very difficult.
The local drivers also complain that the frequent commuters on the road have also developed orthopaedic disorders as many times, the vehicles, hit the potholes and bumps. There have been several mishaps on the road due to bad road. Private vehicle owners complain about increase in the annual maintenance cost of their vehicles. “We do not want to ply on this road as the maintenance cost of our vehicles has gone very high,” they said.
“Doctors have advised pregnant women not to travel on the road as it may prove dangerous for them,” a local said. The locals appealed the District Development Commissioner, Samba and Government to intervene into the issue and make possible redressal of their problem.
