JAMMU: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today said community participation is necessary for the preservation of public assets and urged people to assist the government in maintaining them properly.
The Speaker was addressing a public gathering at Apna Vihar here. The people hailing from the locality and its nearby areas apprised him about the problems being faced by them related to power supply, road connectivity and sanitation.
The locals demanded blacktopping of link road in Apna Vihar besides improvement of drainage system, commissioning of an alternate water supply scheme and establishment of a dispensary in the locality.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said various developmental works have been initiated for providing all basic amenities to the people at their doorsteps.
He further informed that more than Rs. 100 crore has been utilized for development activities in his constituency and proper care is being taken to ensure that developmental programmes are completed within the stipulated timelines.
Stressing that efforts are underway to make Jammu a smart city, the Speaker said parking spaces are being created in busiest areas and various other prestigious projects like establishment of IIT, IIM and AIIMS have been started.
He also highlighted the welfare programmes and initiatives being taken up by the government and exhorted upon people to avail maximum benefit of these schemes.
