SRINAGAR, June 1: Dr. Rashmi Singh, Commissioner State Taxes J&K, called on Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan today.
She was accompanied by Shakeel Maqbool, Additional Commissioner State Taxes Kashmir.
Dr Rashmi Singh apprised the Lt Governor that the State Taxes Department of Government of J&K UT has been awarded SKOCH Award 2023 in Finance Silver category for its successful implementation of GST and record growth exhibited in last Financial Year with innovative strategies combining both regulatory and promotive measures.
The Commissioner further apprised the Lt Governor of the initiatives of the department to increase taxpayer awareness, including seminars, workshops, and outreach programs to educate taxpayers about their rights and responsibilities under the umbrella of its Kar-tavya program.
The Lt Governor appreciated the efforts of the department in ensuring successful implementation of GST and subsequent achievements. He said that winning SKOCH Award is a significant accomplishment and reflects the dedication and hard work of the team.
Pertinently, J&K with a GST GDP ratio of 3.65 is amongst the best-performing GST jurisdictions in the country with the GST collections contributing to as much as 45% of the UT’s own tax revenue. The growth in GST collections has outpaced the GSDP growth significantly in the last two financial years indicating increased tax base and tax compliance.
Meanwhile, Refat Wani, Chairperson Kashmir Servers Foundation (NGO) called on Lieutenant Governor.
Refat Wani discussed various issues of public importance with respect to District Kupwara.
Refat also presented her recently launched book “The Melancholic Tales of a half orphan” to the Lt Governor.
