JAMMU, Feb 7: In a Special Drive of Capacity Building Training for Jammu & Kashmir, Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration, J&K Vinod Sharma today inaugurated a two- day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme under Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) Jammu. Training is conducted by FSSAI in collaboration with Commissionerate of FDA, J&K and Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative (FICSI) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India to create a pool of resource persons to utilize them for delivering the FoSTaC trainings to the Food Business Operators.
The inaugural training session was attended by participants from various fields and organizations, viz. academicians, industrialists, students, and enforcement officers of FDA, J&K. Training will be conducted for two days with special focus on manufacturing and catering under the supervision of Sanjeev Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu and Nodal Officer, FoSTaC, J&K.
Commissioner, FDA, J&K, Vinod Sharma in his presiding speech welcomed the trainees and wished them good luck. He said that, large section of the food business operators in J&K need such trainings and part of containing and sustained efforts, the Department is committed to create a pool of trainers under FoSTaC program so that it will be easy for the Department to reach out to the FBOs. He further said that, similar trainings will be conducted in phased manner in Srinagar in near future.
The training was imparted by Dr. Prabodh Halde, National Resources Person FoSTaC, FSSAI, Pritha Tripathi, FoSTaC, FSSAI. During the training programme the trainees were given basic and advanced understanding of Manufacturing Sector and various food safety aspects including Food Safety Management System, Hazards and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) etc. to minimise hazards and improve safety and hygiene.
He emphasized the enforcement officers to update their knowledge and skills and attend as much as orientation trainings. He reiterated that ‘for the safety of public health mass awareness of the food safety culture is imperative and should be given prime importance along with enforcement of food safety regulations. For this purpose it is imperative to organise trainings and subsequent awareness programmes to make it a sustained chain.
