SRINAGAR, Apr 20: Wife of an Army Colonel serving in border district of Kupwara was today killed in a road mishap at Tappar in Pattan area of Baramulla district while an Assistant Commandant of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sustained injuries.
While giving details about the accident, SHO Pattan, Ayaz Geelani, told Excelsior that the accident occurred near Tappar today in morning hours.
Vandana Rathi, 35, wife of Colonel Sourab Rathi, who is Commanding Officer (CO) of 21 Rajputna Rifles was travelling to Srinagar along with her four year old son, Karan, in a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK01V 5616 and when they reached at Tappar, the speedy Tavera hit a tree, resulting in on spot death of the woman, the SHO said.
He said Assistant Commandant, Manish Kumar of 152 CRPF Battalion, who is attached with 21 Rajputna Rifles, sustained critical injuries in mishap as he too was travelling in the same Tavera and was supposed to go to New Delhi from Srinagar.
The SHO said that the injured CRPF officer was immediately rushed to the hospital while the son of Colonel was miraculously fine. “We have handed over the body of the deceased to the Colonel Sourab who is based in Chowkibal area of Kupwara after legal formalities. The deceased is a resident of Dwarka in Delhi,” he said.
The SHO said that they have arrested the driver and also registered a case under FIR No. 87/2016 under Sections 279 and 304A RPC. “We have seized the vehicle and started further investigation,” Geelani added.
