Cold conditions continue in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Cold conditions continued in Kashmir as the mercury remained several degrees below the freezing point in all places in the Valley and the Ladakh region.
There is a possibility of rain or snowfall over the next few days in Kashmir beginning tomorrow, an official of the Meteorological Department said.
The minimum temperature across the Kashmir division continued to remain below the freezing point.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund, the gateway town to the Valley – in south Kashmir registered a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celisus, the official said.
He said that the night temperature in Kokernag, in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara town in north recorded the minimum of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius Pahalgam – the south Kashmir health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – recorded a low of minus 5.8 degrees Celsius last night, while the mercury at the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius.
Kargil was the coldest recorded place in the state as the mercury there settled at a low of minus 14.5 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said the night temperature in the nearby Leh town settled at a low of minus 11.2 degrees Celsius. (AGENCIES)
