BILLAWAR, Dec 1: In a poignant ceremony filled with patriotic fervor, Col (retd) Mahan Singh, DDC Chairman, Kathua today unveiled the statue of Amar Shaheed Raman Sharma at Billawar near the old Army camp, amidst resounding patriotic slogans and an emotionally charged atmosphere.
The Amar Shaheed, Raman Sharma Samarg has been constructed on the Billawar-Katli road near the Old Army Camp with the active contribution of the martyr’s family and the Purab Sainik Seva Parishad Billawar unit.
The event commenced with the unveiling of the statue by Col. Mahan Singh DDC Chairman Kathua, followed by wreath-laying, patriotic songs, honoring Veer Naris, and paying Pushpanjali to Veer Shaheed by all present.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of dignitaries, including Capt (retd) Pawan Sharma, Capt (retd) Onkar Singh, Capt (retd) Tara Chand, DDC members, Vikram Singh and Neeru Bala, MC Billawar ex-president, Omakan Basotra, ADC and tehsildar Billawar, ex-servicemen, ladies, and youth in large numbers.
A team of serving soldiers JCOs /ORs of the 11 Dogra Parent Unit of the Martyr were also present on the occasion.
The event served as a reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by the brave heart soldier during a training exercise at Solan in Himachal Pradesh during 2021.
In his address, Col Mahan Singh paid rich tributes to Amar Shaheed Raman Sharma and applauded the courage and valor of the Indian Army in defending the nation’s frontiers. He thanked the Modi Government for granting the Indian Armed Forces the freedom to make independent field decisions and for making them self-reliant in their defense equipment and weaponry needs.
Col Mahan expressed his gratitude to the 11 Dogra Regiment for providing funds for the construction of the Amar Shaheed Raman Sharma Samarg, which will serve as a lasting source of inspiration for the youth to join the Indian Army and serve the motherland in defending its borders.
