KOLKATA, Sept 29: Coal production in India in August last was reported at 43.63 million tonnes, an increase of 3.22 per cent from 42.27 million tonens (mt) the country had produced in July this year. In August, India?s coal output was slightly up by 0.39 per cent from 43.46 mt recorded in the same month a year ago (August 2014), according to provisional data of India Coal Market Watch (ICMW) today. However, the production targets for August 2015 were 49.25 mt while the same for 2015-16 stands at 700 mt. India?s coal production in first five months (April-August) stood at 230.39 mt, up 4.58 per cent from 220.51 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal. During the first five months (April-August) of the current fiscal (2015-16), India?s coal production was 89.62 per cent of the targeted 257.07 mt set for the period. Coal production from the captive blocks in the country, however, dipped by a marginal 0.69 pc to 2.86 million tonnes in August 2015 compared to 2.88 million tonnes (mt) in July 2015. In August, coal production from the captive blocks was down by 44.25 pc from 5.13 mt recorded in the same month last year (August 2014). Coal production from the captive mines was 36.52 pc of the 7.83 mt target set for the month. Coal production from the captive blocks in India fell 44 pc to 15.26 mt in the first five months (April-August) of the current fiscal (2015-16) compared to 27.25 mt recorded in the same period of last fiscal.
