JAMMU, May 6: A CME on latest advances in field of Cardiology with focus on Valve Replacement without open Heart Surgery (TAVR) was organized by Paras Hospitals.
The session was chaired by Dr Mohan Lal (former Prof & Head, Department of Cardiology, GMC Jammu) while Dr Rattan P Kudyar (ex-Director & Principal, ASCOMS), Dr Ashok Parihar (ex-Prof & Head, Department of Medicine, GMC Jammu), Dr Anil Gupta (Prof & Head, Department of Medicine, ASCOMS) were also present.
Dr Amit Bhushan Sharma (Unit Head and Associate Director, Department of Cardiology, Paras Hospitals) detailed the newest of advances in field of Interventional Cardiology with focus on TAVR (Valve Replacement without open heart surgery) and hailed it as a beginning of new era in the field of cardiology.
Recently in a major breakthrough 1st patient from J&K received a latest Generation core valve Evolut R with the help of TAVR procedures performed by Heart team led by Dr Amit Bhushan Sharma without the need for open heart surgery in conscious sedans just like astent. Such procedures are extremely rare in India with only 2-3 centers pertaining it in entire country.
In the CME, world’s smallest leadless pacemaker, Micra (which is approximately size of 50 Paisa coin), its implant procedure and benefits were discussed in detail. Demonstration of Angioplasty on a triple vessel disease with left main was done by Dr Amit which was hitherto domain of cardiac surgeon. He added that complex triple vessel disease which was earlier sent for byepass surgery can now be tackled with advance techniques of angioplasty and stenting according to newest trials, Excel and Nobel, which showed better success rates than conventional byepass surgeries.
This was followed by a real life case scenario presentation on Cardio Diabetes by Dr Amit Bhushan in which Dr Mohan Lal, Dr RP Kudyar, Dr Anil Gupta and Dr Ashok Parihar actively participated.
The CME was attended by over 50 doctors from Jammu and surrounding areas.
