This has reference to the news item wherein Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has sought students’ help for implementing even-odd formula in J&K too to overcome traffic problem.
However, it is not out of context to mention here that for the formula to succeed, it is necessary to understand the cause of traffic jams and pollution. One of the major causes of traffic snarls is presence of matadors on roads. These vehicles though necessary for commuters are a great source of nuisance. These matador operators violate traffic rules with impunity, and nobody takes action against them for reasons best known to the traffic authorities. If stringent action is taken against them, traffic system will improve to a great extent.
