SRINAGAR, Dec 23:
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his deputy and about a dozen other ministers were among the prominent losers in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the results of which were declared today.
However, Mr Omar Abdullah, who lost from Sonawar seat emerged victorious in Beerwa constituency in Badgam district. Interestingly Ganderbal seat he deserted shortly before elections, was won by a NC candidate. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Taj Mohiuddin, Sham Lal Sharma, Abdul Majid Wani and Shabir Ahmad Khan were among prominent Congress candidates who lost this time.
Among the NC six-time MLA and senior minister Abdul Rahim Rather, three-time MLa Mir Saifullah, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Javid Ahmad Dar, Nasir Aslam Wani, Sajjad Kitchloo, Sakina Itoo and Nasir Aslam Wani were losers.
National Panthers Party (NPP) was washed out completely as the party lost all the three seats it had won in 2008, including that of Haresh Dev Singh.
For Peoples Democratic Party Sartaj Madni, deputy speaker of the Assembly was among the losers while senior minister in the NC-Congress coalition and Democratic Party Nationalist chief Ghulam Hassan Mir were also among the losers.
The winners included Mr Abdullah, who won from Beerwa, Ali Mohammad Sagar, speaker Mubarak Gul, Nazir Gurezi, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mian Altaf Ahmad all from NC and Mohammad Yousuf Targami of CPI(M) PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Nawang Rigzin Jora of Congress. (AGENCIES)
