JAMMU, Oct 15: Aligning with the National initiatives of Digital India and Skill India, Cluster University of Jammu organized a one-day learning workshop on the topic ‘Online and Blended Learning’ for the faculty members of its constituent colleges and PGI schools.
The workshop, which was organized in collaboration with Training First, a leading organization in digital learning transformation, was inaugurated by Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice-Chancellor of the University. Ashish Mehta, CEO, Training Front and Madhaven were the key resource persons for the workshop.
Forty participants who attended the programme included Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar, Prof Zaheer Abbas Hashmi, Controller Examination, Deans of various faculties, Dean Student Welfare, Financial Advisor, Coordinators of Integrated Programmes and teaching faculty nominated by the principals of the constituent colleges.
Prof Poonam Dhawan, in her welcome address, introduced the concept of MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) which is a new online medium for course delivery and learning and also aims at unlimited participation of learners and open access via internet. She deliberated on the feasibility of introducing these courses in the Cluster University for the benefit of the learners.
Prof Anju Bhasin, in his speech, emphasized on the importance of aligning with the national policies to increase the outreach of the innovative courses developed by the University. She exhorted that teachers can play effective leadership roles in developing brand courses, innovative courses, discipline specific and interdisciplinary courses both individually and collectively.
Ashish Mehta spoke on the relevance of Massive Open Online Courses and emphasized on the importance of delivering Small Private Online Courses (SPOCs) for personalized and localized learning. He shared the new-age methodologies to increase course adoption and useful techniques to encourage course completion.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session where in some faculty shared their experiences about the online courses, they had pursued and also sought clarifications with regard to introduction of a few short online courses in the University.
