Closure of Border Schools

Sir,
This refers to the editorial’Closure of Border Schools’ (DE, Oct 20, 2016).It is really unfortunate that many schools falling close to the LOC and international border have been lying closed  due to heightened tension between India and her hostile neighbour after Indian Army’s surgical strike on 29th September this year on some launching pads of terrorists in POK.These schools were closed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security against Pakistan’s heavy  firing and shelling in the civilian areas along the border.Though many such schools in Jammu and Samba districts have been reopened in view of the situation limping back to normalcy in these areas, a large no of schools falling in Poonch, Rajouri and Poonch Districts have been still lying closed, thus, affecting the education of the students and causing them irreparable loss as the examination of v as rious classes including 10th and 12 th classes in the winter zone schools are drawing near.Though, it is imperative that safety and security of the students and the teachers of these schools should be the top priority of the government and cannot be compromised, the loss of the studies of the students need to be made up  by making suitable arrangements. The government ought to make adequate arrangements such as extra classes/evening classes for their studies so that  the students donot suffer and can perform well in the forthcoming exams. In fact, firing and shelling by Pakistan has now become a recurrent phenomenon and government ought to make foolproof arrangements to ensure that students studying in these schools donot suffer during duch times and their future is not put at stake.
Yours etc…
