Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘clear all major nallahs before onset of rainy season’ DE June 25.
It is quite imperative that the major nallahs flowing through the city are cleared of garbage and other waste material lying in them before onset of rainy season. This is to avoid repetition of the last year’s horrible incidents in which floods wreaked havoc in many localities by entering houses, shops and other low lying areas. The people suffered much on account of that. The cause for such havoc was that water could not flow through the nallahs, as they were choc-a-bloc with garbage and other material.
The low lying areas of the city like Bhagwati Nagar and Jewel were marooned. As a result of it, the city witnessed traffic snarls and chaos. Besides, the whole area was littered with rubbish and silt.
There are also apprehension of water borne diseases and other infections in case water remained stagnant in these colonies as has been explained by the Minister.
To avoid such a situation, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) should clear all nallahs which may cause problems.
Yours etc….
