India on Sunday completed a historic 4-0 clean sweep against Australia by recording an emphatic six-wicket victory in the fourth and final cricket test. The historic series has set many new records.
This is the first time India have won four tests in a series. They’ve won three in a series on three occasions, two of which were clean sweeps at home –against England and one against Sri Lanka.
For Australia, it was the first time in 43 years to suffer a 4-0 series whitewash after Bill Lawry’s side was defeated in South Africa in 1969-70.
This is only the second time in Test history that a team has won four or more tosses in a series, and lost four or more Tests in the same series.
Entire nation rejoices at the victory of Captain M.S. Dhoni’s boys in a four match cricket tie against redoubtable Australians. Their finest hour came at Kotla Ferozeshah cricket ground in New Delhi where the fourth and final win over the Aussies was recorded in a thrilling finale. Pujara, the hero of the matches, maintained sustained superiority in seeing the home team through. This is a moment of pride and glory not only for our team but also for all the cricket lovers in this country. For a long period, Australian cricket ream has been maintaining its unbroken superiority and leadership as the most invincible cricket team of the world. It has thrown up many shining stars of the game of cricket and has kept the ashes for the longest period in cricket history. It is for the first time in its history of 81 y ears that Indian cricket team has been able to beat the Australians in all the four tests. That again is history.
But we ought to learn some good lesson from this event. We have the potential to be the leaders in many more games if we manage our sportsmanship intelligently and with earnest dedication. Not to speak of Olympic Games even in Commonwealth and Asian Games we are not able to show any remarkable achievement in sports and athletics. This is not a good sign for a country with such huge population. Victory of our talented cricket team should infuse in us the urge to demonstrate excellence in many other sport items. We urge the Youth and Sports Ministry to use the victory of our cricket team as a source of inspiration for our youth to win laurels on the play ground. It must shake off its lethargy and bring about a revolution in India’s sports and athletic performance.
