Srinagar, Nov 27: Clashes and protests broke out at multiple places in Valley including in summer capital after Friday prayers against detentions and militant killings.
Dozens of masked youths assembled outside historical  Jama Masjid in Nowhatta area of Old City here after Friday congregation prayers and resorted to stone-pelting on security forces including police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.
The security forces retaliated by firing scores of teargas shells, pepper shells and stun grenades towards youth. Despite security forces action, the youth continued pelting stones after which police resorted to aerial firing in a bid to disperse stone-throwers. During stone-pelting, some youth waved flags of Islamic State (IS) and Pakistan.
In Maisuma area of city centre here, the activists of hardline Hurriyat faction headed by Syed Ali Geelani staged a protest against the detention of conglomerate chairman and other leaders. The separatist activists were seeking “unconditional and immediate” release of Hurriyat leaders. Police detained some of the protesters including Imtiyaz Haider.
A peaceful protest rally was taken out in Bijbehara town of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after Friday prayers against the death of three militants early this week. The town observed shutdown for the fourth day against the killing of three local Hizbul Mujahideen militants. They said soon after the Friday prayers, the locals took out a rally and staged protests. However they dispersed off peacefully before visiting houses of slain militants.
