Srinagar, July 16: Protesters clashed with police in Central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, after body of Abid Ahmad Ganie reached to his hometown from Rajasthan today.
Several people including some policemen also got injured during the clashes. Ganie died under mysterious circumstances.
Police fired tire gas shells and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the protesters after they pelted stones at police and CRPF. The protesters also took hostage one ASI and one constable of State police and later released them after they were beaten. One ruling party district president was also beaten by angry protesters.
Immediately after the body of Abid reached to Ganderbal, people at Dangerpor and Bursu and its adjoining localities came to the streets and held massive protest demonstrations against his death.
The protesters pelted stones towards police and CRPF. The forces also fired dozens of tear gas shells and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesters.
The protesters showed stiff resistance and continued stone pelting at police. The additional deployment of security forces was made in the areas to control the situation.
Reports said that before the clashes had started, a head constable Mohammad Sarwar was made hostage by the protesters when he entered into a protest demonstration and tried to pacify them not to protest. The angry protesters made him hostage and beat him seriously.
Another, police officer, Abdul Kabir an ASI was also beaten by the protesters, when he tried to rescue his colleague. Both the policemen were later released by the protesters.
Reports also said that a local leader of ruling National Conference Abdul Rahim Mir was also attacked by the protesters when he tried to address them.
The protesters were demanding a high level inquiry about the death of Ganie. Several localities of the areas including Dangerpor, Bursu and people from other villages reached Larsen, the native village of the Ganie to protest against his mysterious death.
The clashes between the police and youths continued till late in the evening. The heavy deployment of police and CRPF was deployed in the area to control the situation.
The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali shah Geelani has given post Friday prayers protest call outside mosques against the mysterious deaths of two Kashmiri youths, Parvez Ahmad Tali of Qalambanpora Srinagar and Abid Ahmad Ganie of Larsun, Ganderbal.
The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman said that the mysterious deaths of two Kashmiri youths in Mumbai and Rajasthan is a serious issue and unless the real causes of the deaths are not come to public, the Hurriyat Conference with the support of the public will not remain silent and would protest against these deaths.
Meanwhile, the body of Zubair Ahmad of Dalina Baramulla was today fished from river Jhelum after he was drowned in it on Sunday evening.
The most of the shops in Dalina villages remained closed after the body of Zubair Ahmad, a driver by profession was fished out from the river Jhelum, after he was drowned in the river Jhelum on Sunday evening after he enter into the river for a bath.
The people in the areas yesterday held protest demonstrations against the alleged delay of the rescue teams of the civil and police administration. The police had to fire smoke shells to disperse the protesters after they blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad high way.
