JAMMU, Dec 24: Chief Justice of State High Court Justice Gita Mittal inaugurated Legal Literacy Club and Legal Awareness Programme at DPS Jammu today.
She was accompanied by Vinod Chatterji Koul, Principal District & Session Judge, Jammu, Aditi Chaudhary, Registrar Vigilance, High Court Delhi, Tanvi Khurana, Secretary, South East, DLSA, Delhi, Sanjay Dhar, Registrar General, J&K High Court, Akram Chowdhary, Member Secretary, J&K State Legal Services Authority, R K Wattal, Registrar Vigilance, J&K High Court, Jawad Ahmed, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Chairpersons and Secretaries, District Legal Services Authorities and Judicial Officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice laid stress on the need of spreading legal literacy among all the school students and staff. She also highlighted the importance of legal awareness among students about various provision of laws like Protection of Children from Sexual Violence Offences Ordinance, Information Technology Act and Ranbir Penal Code as ignorance of these provisions sometimes invites penal cognizance regarding some innocent acts of the child.
She also spoke about the havoc being created in the environment and nature and impressed upon all to create awareness among the general masses about the damage being caused to the environment.
The resource persons focused on the sensitive topic of child abuse & sexual violence.
The school staff including Neeraj Kaila, Sukaran Gupta and Pooja Pandoh highlighted the important measures schools can take in terms of children’s safety.
The programme was compared by Kamini Sawhney and Payal Sharma. Also present on the occasion were President, RCT, Ajatshatru Singh, Director, DPS Jammu, S S Sodhi, Principals and staff of DPS Jammu and DPS Nagbani.
