ANANTNAG: A civilian was injured when militants hurled a hand grenade towards the security forces in this south Kashmir district on Saturday afternoon, official sources said.
This was the fifth such grenade attack by militants in the Kashmir valley, where security forces were put on high alert again following inputs that attempts would be made to cause disturbance on or before the Republic Day (RD) functions on January 26.
Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit has claimed responsibility for most of these attacks. Official sources said that militants hurled a hand grenade towards security forces at K P Road, Anantnag.
However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to a civilian. Window panes of several vehicles were damaged due to the impact of the blast, sound of which was heard in the entire town.
The injured was rushed to District Hospital, they said. Personnel from state police and CRPF were immediately rushed to the area, where shops and business establishments were closed and traffic movement was also disrupted for some time.
It was a grenade attack at Zero Bridge in Rajbagh area on Thursday evening in which three police personnel, including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), were injured.
However, there was no report of any injury in grenade attacks at historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, Shopian and Pulwama on Friday. (AGENCIES)
