Srinagar, Apr 18: Demanding the sacking of former Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Civil Society Thursday threatened to launch a Valley wide agitation if the ‘murderers’ are not hanged.
Shouting anti-Government slogans, different groups of civil society including teachers, lawyers, businessmen and doctors held a strong protest rally from Sher-e-Kashmir park to Lal Chowk demanding strict punishment to the culprits involved directly or indirectly in the supply of the spurious drugs to the Valley based hospitals.
Asserting that the supply of the spurious drugs was ‘genocide’ against the Kashmiris, they said that it was murder conspiracy planted by some persons only to gain more monitory benefits.
KCSDS Chairperson while talking to media demanded Sharma should be sacked and strict punishment to the culprits.
Calling Sharma “maut ka saudgar, KCSDS Chairperson Hameeda Nayeem said, “Sharma should be sacked till a judicial investigation by a sitting High Court Judge is completed. We demand severe punishment to the murderer who is involved in the killing of our children.” She said, “It is genocide conspired by the State against the Kashmiri people. Director Health Services, Purchasing Committee and Suppliers, all should be prosecuted and tried under law.”
Expressing her resentment she said that it is very unfortunate that the Chief Minister of the State is yet to come up with a statement.
JCC leader Khursheed Alam threatened that they will launch a district wide agitation if Sharma is not sacked.
“We will launch district wise agitation if Sharma, who is responsible for the killing of the poor people, is not sacked. If G M Saroori, Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed were sacked, why the Government is lenient on Sharma who is a murderer of innocent people,” he said.
Joining the chorus Doctors Association Kashmir Dr. Nissar-ul-Hassan said that they will come on roads and will not stop till their demands are met.
KCSDS member Shakeel Qalander said that spurious drugs have killed many innocent lives during the last two years and demanded that only World Health Organization certified medicines should be supplied to the Government Hospitals.
Civil society also demanded reinvestigation into the deaths of children at G B Pant Hospital where about 500 children had died during the last two years.
Civil society also rejected the probe ordered by the Government and said that investigation is not possible till all the suspected are not sacked to ensure a fair investigation.
