JAMMU, Dec 29: J&K Civil Society (JKCS) here today in a programme felicitated Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Mayor and others.
During the programme JKCS Convenor, Dr Yudhvir Gupta, former Prof & Head Department of Pathology, GMC Jammu felicitated JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta; Prof. Ashok Aima, VC Central University; Dr Shahid Moghal, President Bhaderwah Municipal Committee; Dr Dara Singh, former HOD Department of Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu; Asgar Ali, Former MLC; Abdul Majid Bhat, Secretary to Govt Tribal Affairs; Neeraj Puri, Corporator Ward no. 54; S.M Gandotra, Retd Comptroller, Agriculture University of Kashmir; Afroz Mir (Special Secy Law Deptt); Anchor, Kusum Tikoo and Singer, Sunil Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yudhvir said: “Government takes care of the basics, such as defence, education and health care but it doesn’t provide citizens with a way to organize them to do what is important to them or express their views. That’s where civil society comes into play.”
Other prominent members of J&K Civil Society in their address said that at various points throughout history, civil society has taken on the role of leading great movements of change, including civil rights, gender equality and other parity movements.
