Civil rights & liberties are seen through cultural prism: Suresh Sharma

JAMMU, June 7: Suresh Kumar Sharma, Principal District and Sessions Judge (Retd) and former Member of J&K Public Service Commission, today said that civil rights and liberties are seen through the cultural prism of India.
“India has diversity in all levels of the society and therefore the inclusion as well as mutual respect become important aspects of life,” he said while speaking at a panel discussion on ‘Diversity, Inclusion and Mutual Respect’, organised by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu , in collaboration with Vivekanand Kendra, Jammu at IIMC Campus on Wednesday.
Suresh Kumar Sharma underscored the connection between philosophy, religion, and environmental consciousness. He also discussed the importance of Dharma. He also elaborated on the cultural perspective of civil rights and liberties, shedding light on how these values are embedded within our societal fabric.
Manas Bhattachariee of Vivekananda Kendra also spoke on the occasion and said: “Dharma is sovereign and as a journalist, all the students must know what subjects are important for society and what are not. Moral values are our Dharma and no law can inforce you to follow these values.” He also shared valuable insights on the working groups in C20 and emphasized the importance of integrating global ideas while maintaining a strong local and Indian perspective.
Mr Bhattachariee also talked about different shades of life and emphasized the need to balance the personal and social life.
Earlier, Prof Anil Saumitra, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu, presented his keynote address and gave introductory information about the significance of diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect in today’s world.
Students of all the three courses, English Journalism, Hindi Journalism and Digital Media asked several questions based on the agenda of discussion. Aditi Kashyap, student of Hindi Journalism moderated the panel discussion.
On this occasion Dr Dilip Kumar, Dr Vinit Utpal, Sant Kumar Sharma, Dr P S Pathania, Dr Bharti Gupta, I K Raina and all the students of IIMC were present.
