JAMMU, Mar 11: A protest was held today at Town Hall under the banner of Civic Safaikaramchari Union, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) led by its president Rinku Gill, wherein they put forth their burning issues and demands.
Speaking on the occasion, Gill emphasized on reorganization of JMC while alleging that the area/jurisdiction of JMC has been extended exorbitantly due to increasing population and development from 23 to 75 wards (area: 32 sq km to 150 sq km) but the existing strength of staff/SKCs remain the same.
Gill said that JMC advertised 600 Safaikaramchari (SKC) posts sanctioned by Government of J&K in 2018 and physical as well as practical tests were conducted during the year 2020-21 but their final selection list is still pending. He demanded that the final selection list be released soon and put forth in public domain.
While stating that the daily wagers of JMC are getting a meager monthly honorarium of Rs 6750, he demanded an increase in the pay of daily wagers/SKCs as per the UT rules which is Rs 18000 per month so that they easily managed their household expenses on daily basis.
He also demanded the Government to take immediate steps for the regularization of daily wager SKCs who have completed 7 years of service. “If our demands are not fulfilled soon, then the Union will have no other option except going for ‘Kaam Choro Hartal’ from March 15.
