JAMMU, Apr 30: To project their pending demands, Civic Safaikaramchari Union held protest here today.
A large number of safaikaramchari assembled at Town Hall here and raised slogans in favour of their demands. The protest was led by Rinku Gill, President Civic Safaikaramchari Union.
While speaking, Gill demanding scrapping of outsourcing of 15 wards, re-organization of JMC, fill up created 600 posts for the SKCs, release of approval of two and half day salary and this salary should be added with monthly salary, regularization of 33 contractual drivers, sanction gazetted holiday and Sunday to SKCs and allow SKCs to work for one time shift which should be extended to continuous for 8 hours.
While elaborating about the demands, he said that around 500 safaikaramcharis are working in the outsourced 15 wards, but the accumulated provident funds are not released despite lapse of around two years. He requested Commissioner JMC to don’t give any new tender to the contractors, until SKCs get their provident fund money.
He added that four months back, 600 posts for the SKCs were created by the JMC and notice was given for filing of forms. “Many deserving candidates filled the forms, but even after lapse of around six months, no progress has been made in this sphere”, Gill stated.
He further stated that SKCs pefrom duty even on gazetted holiday and Sunday. No weekly off has been given to them, which is against the Indian Labour Laws. He demanded sanctioning these holidays to SKCs also.
“For one time attendance or allotment of daily allowances, JMC has installed biometric machines in its office and some wards which come under its ambits. The office staff has to mark their attendance once in a day, but SKCs who work in two shifts from 7 am to 11 am in the morning and 3 pm to 7 pm in the evening have to mark their attendance two times. I request Commissioner to allow SKCs to work for one time shift which should be extended to continuous for 8 hours”, he informed.
