SRINAGAR, May 8: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) strongly condemned the police action against casual/need based, daily rated/ CP workers of various departments including PHE, PDD, Tourism, JVC, SKIMS, JKPCC, Agriculture, Irrigation and Flood Control, Forest, Municipal Corporations, Rural Development, Estates Department Fisheries, SKUAST, Floriculture, various development authorities and employees working under SSA and RMSA, who protested in support of their demand for regularization of their services.
In a meeting held here today CITU expressed concern over the way protesting workers are dealt with in Kashmir. “Use of batons, water cannons and tear smoke shells against the employees is condemnable. “Use of excessive force the Government is only complicating the grievances of its employees” it stated.
Mr Tarigami, who is also the State President CITU, while expressing concern over the non serious approach adopted by the State Government to fulfill long pending demands of casual and daily wagers, he stressed for execution of the promises made with them on the floor of the House in letter and spirit.
Condemning the police action Tarigami said that unfortunately the use of brutal force against peaceful protesters has become a precedent in the State. This tactic needs to be changed in the better interests of Government as well as the people, he added.
Taking a strong exception to the Government’s lackadaisical approach towards pending wages of casual labourers/daily wagers, salaries of employees working under SSA and RMSA the CITU president observed that it seems the present Government like the previous dispensation believes in making deceptive commitments to buy time and avoid the crisis. “It is appalling that the Government is far from fulfilling its commitment with these daily wagers. The administrative apathy towards their genuine issues is against justice and fair play.”
The meeting adopted a resolution calling for immediate and time bound regularization of all daily wagers, casual labourers and contractual employees. It urged upon the Government to fulfill its commitment without any further delay.
