CID organizes debate on human rights

Jammu, May 29 : J&K Police through its CID Wing today organized State Level annual debate competition on issues related to Human Rights wherein the participants deliberated upon the issues of “Human Rights and the role of Police” in honouring them.
In the competition, several speakers from different Wings/Zones of J&K Police participated. These participants have reached to this top level competition after competing in district, range and zonal level competitions.
Ram Singh Dy.SP of IRP 17th Bn was declared Ist whereas Raja Adil Hamid Dy.SP of Traffic Wing and Shri Zaffer Iqbal Nawaz, Prob. Dy.SP (Kashmir Zone) were declared 2nd and 3rd  respectively.
Dr. B. Srinivas, IGP, was Chief guest on the occasion who stressed upon the participants and the audience to respect human rights. He further emphasized that all the police personnel must carry out their duties in a humane manner and ensure that there is no violation of Human Rights and all SOPs (Standing Operative Procedures) are adhered to.
The IGP further said that they are committed / duty bound to safeguard the rights of the citizens and respect and honour the human rights. He also emphasized the need to organize such debates at lower levels more frequently to sensitize policemen to respect human rights.
A jury comprising Mrs.Manju Rashid, DIG of Police, (Retd), Vijay Singh Sambyal Commandant IRP 10th Bn and Nissar Ahmed, SSP Crime Jammu adjudged the performance of the participants.
Yoginder Koul IPS, IGP State Human rights Commission, was guest of honour, who outlined the concept, need and legal role of human rights. He appreciated the quality of debate and various issues raised by participants.
Earlier, Joginder Singh, SP CID in his opening remarks introduced the topic of the debate and its aims.
Surinder Kumar Gupta, DIG in his Welcome address, called for the need to enhance professionalism in preventing crime and maintaining public order. He also said that when police are seen to respect, uphold and defend human rights, public confidence is built & community cooperation fostered, legal prosecutions are successful in courts and fair administration of justice is delivered.
J.L. Sharma, SSP in his address maintained that it is a matter of great pride that the police officers and jawans are well aware of the respect for human rights and are contributing to make J&K Police uphold the dignity of human right Values while dealing with the law offenders thereby showing high degree of professionalism.
