POONCH, Oct 7: State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) G R Sofi held a detailed interaction session with Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs), here today.
District Development Commissioner Poonch Ajeet Kumar Superintendent of Police Shamsher Hussain, Addl DDC Syed Anwar Hussain Shah, Addl Deputy Commission Jatinder Singh were among others PIOs and APIOs who attended.
Chief Information Commissioner appreciated the measures taken by the District Administration in disseminating awareness regarding various provisions of Right to Information (RTI) Act. He said an encouraging beginning has been made in this respect.
Speaking at the session, Sofi said that each individual of the State have legal right to obtain certified copies of information regarding official status of any matter from a PIO of concerned department by tendering a written application accompanied by prescribed fee.
Mr. Sofi impressed upon PIOs and APIOs to maintain transparency, accuracy and promptness in official dealing, while asking them to maintain separate register showing receipt of each RTI application, its disposal date and other remarks. He said that the officers are under obligation to provide the information sought under RTI unless debarred by law.
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commission Poonch gave a resume of measures taken by district administration for early disposal of RTI applications. As many as 319 RTI applications were received during current fiscal year till ending September, out of which 280 application were disposed off, whereas rest applications are under process of disposal, the CIC was told.
It was further informed that a Control Room has been set up at Deputy Commissioner Office Poonch, which monitors public grievances on priority, while Sign Boards containing works under taken by each Government Department, MGNREGA and PMGSY schemes have been installed at different location. The CIC was also informed that public darbars, mass contacts with Sarpanchs and Panchs are also conducted frequently by DDC. Moreover, seminars and symposiums are conducted in educational institutions and through NGOs.
CIC also interacted with advocates of Bar Association Poonch, prominent citizens, Sarpanchs and Panchs at Dak Banglow during 2nd session today.
Mr. Sofi is on three day extensive tour of Poonch district. On reaching Poonch he visited Chakkan-Da-Bagh, LoC crossing point and held interactive cum RTI awareness session with Panchs, Sarpanchs, prominent citizens and students of High School Kari Karmara.
