CIBS gets provisional “deemed-to-be-university tag

NEW DELHI, Jan 27: The ‘Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS)’ at Leh in J&K, has been declared a deemed-to-be-university, provisionally, for a period of five years, the HRD ministry said.

            As per an official statement released here, the Institute has been declared a deemed-to-be-university on the advice of the UGC under the de novo category from the date it disaffiliates itself for its courses from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, and Tibetan Medicines and Astrology Department, Dharamsala.

            The declaration of CIBS as deemed-to-be-university shall be confirmed after five years on the basis of five successive annual performance reports of UGC Expert Committees.

            CIBS, however, has not been allowed to offer any distance education programmes or operate any off campus or department) without prior approval of the UGC.

            The Institute is also not permitted to affiliate any college and shall not undertake franchising of higher education, the statement added. (PTI)
