JAMMU, Mar 25: A religious procession was taken out by Christian community here today on the occasion of Good Friday.
A large number of Christian community members including women and children participated in the procession, which started from St Peter’s Catholic Church.
Carrying wooden crosses and rosaries, the participants symbolized the final hours of Christ from his condemnation to the laying of his body in the tomb after the crucifixion on the Mount Calvary over 2000 years ago.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev Fr Jose Vaddakel, the Parish Pritest of St Peter’s Catholic Church, said that Good Friday is a big Eid for the Christians as Jesus Christ sacrificed himself on this day for the sanctification and salvation of whole sinful human race.
In Rome, crucified death was taken to be very disgraceful and it was a symbol of hatred but Jesus Christ faced this death for the well being of others, he added.
He said “Good Friday is called Good because it brought the message of peace and joy for us and that is the reason, we consider it as Eid and celebrate it”.
He stated that the day reminds all the Christians of the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ and even after the passage of over two thousand years he is still alive in their hearts.
