JAMMU, Apr 19: Good Friday, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, was observed by the Christian community here today by taking out of processions and holding of prayers in Churches.
Depicting the final moment of Christ, believers walked carrying crosses on their shoulders as part of processions taken up by Churches in the State.

An impressive procession was taken out by members of Catholic community in Jammu with religious fervor. The procession started from Shaheedi Chowk and after passing through Residency Road and other bazaars of the city, culminated at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Premnagar.
The procession depicted the final journey of Jesus Christ to the Mount Calvary where he was crucified. The important events with regard to crucifixion of Jesus were enacted in the form of tableau during the procession. Some devotees in the procession were bearing wooden crosses depicting the final hours of Jesus.
Another impressive procession with tableau was taken out from Gandhi Nagar Church in which a large number of members of Christian community and priests participated. Attired in white dresses they were reciting prayers. The procession after passing from Church road Gandhi Nagar and other markets later culminated at the Church.
Besides the procession, special prayers were held in the Churches for commemorating the passion and death of Jesus. A large number of devotees assembled in the Churches to pray and seek blessings from Lord Jesus Christ . Senior priests led special prayers to mark the day and reminded the gathering that Jesus Christ allowed himself to be crucified on the cross at Calvary to redeem the sins of all humankind.
In Udhampur , a large number of Christian community members participated in the solemn Cross Enactment in the Union Church. The scene of Jesus carrying the deadly cross was re-enacted with the help of youth members and the gathering followed the same. At the end of pious prayer service in a very special way, Dr Santosh Thomas and Secretary Ravi Kumar of Union Church Udhampur, showered blessings to the congregation.
Reports from other parts of the State said that similar prayer meetings were held and procession were taken out by different Churches across J&K.
