Beijing, May 22: Sun Weidong, China’s Vice Foreign Minister, called Japan’s Ambassador to China Hideo Tarumi to protest the “smearing” of China during the G7 conference in Hiroshima.
At a conference in Hiroshima on Saturday, G7 leaders produced a final communiqu that highlighted China, among other things. They were particularly concerned about Taiwan, the South China Sea, China’s “non-market policies and practices,” and the human rights situation.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry summoned Japan’s ambassador to voice formal opposition to the G7 communiqu, which is viewed as an attack on Beijing and intervention in China’s internal affairs, undermining its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry underlined its displeasure with G7 leaders’ remarks on China during the summit in Japan, accusing them of undermining regional stability and impeding the growth of other countries.
