The big question of our times is whether China and the US are really interested in curbing the world-wide phenomenon of the rise of religion-based terrorism. These are two largest and strongest economies of the world with global interests. Their sincere efforts of countering global terrorism would have certainly contained terror to a large extent. Any inquisitive scholar of the history of global terrorism will find that these two world powers and important members of the UN Security Council are politicizing terror for their national interests and do not care for the interests of the mankind living on this globe. After the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the US poured in the largest ever quantities of arms, ammunition and money into Afghanistan via Pakistan under the label of supporting the Afghan freedom fighters against the Soviet invasion. In other words, the trillions of dollars worth arms and ammunition were transferred to the AF-Pak region with the ultimate result that we see today. Now the US and NATO are fighting the same forces in Afghanistan whom they raised so generously to fight the Soviets. Take the case of China. For the second time, it has blocked India’s proposal at the UN Sanctions Committee to list the JeM and its chief Azhar. This time India presented concrete evidence of the involvement of Azhar in the attack of JeM terrorists on Pathankot Air Force base in January last. China and the US, both are vying with each other in protecting terrorist institutions in Pakistan directly or indirectly in their political interests. The US supplies most sophisticated weaponry like F-16 fighter aircrafts capable of carrying nuclear weapons besides other war machinery and China does not allow the world community to impose sanctions on its well-known terrorist organizations flourishing on her soil with the intention of carrying fire and brimstone into the neighbouring country, Yet, ironically, both of these countries are vociferous on international platforms in condemning terrorism and committing their countries to fight it out. The world has by now clearly understood the big chasm between the words and deeds of these nations. China’s unreasonable blocking of India’s proposal of bringing a terrorist organization and its leadership to book has established the double standard of that country in handling international terror.
