Child sex ratio has declined in the country: Govt

NEW DELHI, Aug 2: For the country poised to transform from developing to a developed one, the plunge in child sex ratio has come as a rude shock.
The skewed ratio stands at  918 in 2011 from 927 in 2001.       According to Government data, five districts in Haryana namely Mahendragarh, Jhajjar, Rewari, Sonepat and Ambala, followed by Una in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu have emerged as gender critical districts in the country with plunging child sex ratio.
As per the data, the child sex ratio registered in Mahendragarh was (775), Jhajjar (782), Rewari (787), Sonepat (798) and Ambala (810), followed by Una in Himachal Pradesh (875) and Jammu (795).
Kerala, however, tops the list of states with the highest child sex ratio (950), followed by Raigarh in Chhattisgarh (947), Assam (946) and Andaman and Nicobar (945). Also, Bijapur in Karnataka (931), Dhanbad in Jharkhand (916) and Lakhshadweep (911) have also shown an appreciable difference.
To address the ongoing situation, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has introduced Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme which is a joint initiative of Women and Child Development Ministry, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Human Resource Development.  (PTI)
