Sir,
This has reference to the news item J&K sleeping over directions of Apex Court on prevention of Child labour’ DE Feb 10, 2015.
Child problem continues to be one of the most complex problems the country faces today. Despite many efforts by some social organisations and NGOs to put an end to it, the problem still continues to be there. Though many laws have been enacted to deal with the problem, these have proved to be ineffective. The law enforcing agencies have to be quite active in the matter, without their cooperation nothing will fructify.
One of the causes of child labour is poverty. And poverty in India is due to increase in population. Since there are no job opportunities in rural areas, parents force their children to work at dhabas, factories and other hazardous places.
This is a big social problem and it needs a holistic approach. The Government must join NGOs to abolish it in the country.
Yours etc…..
