KHOUR, July 15: The people from Chhamb Assembly constituency today staged a protest demonstration at Khour town demanding increase in reservation along ALC from 3 % to 6 %, regularization of daily wagers and clear pending cases of relief to the refugees/ displaces persons of 1947, 65 and 71.
The protesting people also submitted a memorandum to the State Governor through SDM Khour. The protesters were shouting slogans in their favour and also against the Administration. They pointed out that people from border belt of Kathua, Samba and Jammu have been rightly included in the reservation but the 3 % share as provided to them is not sufficient. They demanded that the reservation being provided to the people from LOC from Akhnoor to Rajouri and Poonch up to Kargil is not sufficient. It is needed to be enhanced. Such a vast area should be given at least 6 % reservation.
The protesters were also demanding that the daily wagers, casual and need based and CP workers engaged in various departments including PHE, PWD, I&FC, PDD etc be regularised without any more delay.
They pointed out that previous UPA Govt had recommended Rs 25 lakh package for the refugees / DP families but Modi Govt provided just Rs 5.5 lakh per family which is very meagure . They also demanded other benefits recommended by the JPC for the wards of the DPs besides political reservation and also fixed quota in the jobs. After holding protest demonstration for about an hour they dispersed.
