UDHAMPUR, May 15: Saying that road connectivity is vital for transforming socio-economic profile of the people living in remote and far-off areas, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Chenani, Dina Nath Bhagat today said that some vital road links of the constituency would be taken up on priority.
The MLA said this while chairing a joint meeting of officers of different departments convened to review the pace of on-going works being executed under core sector in the constituency.
He said that the construction work on bridge over Tawi at Gharian on Chenani- Pattan road would be started soon for which an amount of Rs. 5 crore has been earmarked. He said the construction of bridge at Gharian over Tawi was the long pending demand of the people of the area, adding that with the completion of this vital link, scores of villages of the area would get easy accessibility particularly in rainy season.
Referring to engagement of local skilled and un-skilled labourers for construction of tunnel at Chenani, the MLA said that the concerned construction company has been asked for engaging 90 per cent local manpower for the purpose.
Mr. Bhagat directed the officers of the Forest Department, present in the meeting, for retrieving encroached forest land and work for maintaining picturesque beauty of the site.
The MLA directed the Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Chenani for taking-up repair and renovation work of lanes and drains, besides identification of spots for construction of public conveniences for which the funds would be provided out of Constituency Development Funds (CDF). He said, besides deployment of adequate number of medicos and para-medicos, special funds for procurement of medicines would also be granted to the health institution of Chenani.
The meeting was informed that 17 road projects were taken up under PMGSY, of which 4 have been completed and work on the rest of the projects is going on. In total, 1100 cases of pension under various pension schemes have been cleared in social welfare sector, the meeting was informed.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate and other sectoral officers attended the meeting.
